working with you to provide a green legacy for Guernsey

PARISH OF ST ANDREW

"For many years I have had business dealings with Nigel Clarke, the proprietor of Queux Patio Plants in Guernsey. First, on a personal basis for my own garden, and then for the last 2 years on a professional basis in my role as Co-ordinator of the St Andrew’s Floral Guernsey team. Each year St Andrew’s parish enters in the Floral Guernsey Community Competition and the floral displays at the Douzaine Room (parish hall) supplied by Queux Patio Plants have won a Gold Award for several years running.

In 2011 Nigel has been instrumental in the redesign of the vegetable and flower garden at our parish primary school, introducing children, teachers and parents to the idea of a “no dig garden” which is already producing impressive quantities of fruit and vegetables. He also demonstrated willow weaving so that domes could be added to an existing willow tunnel and a ‘fedge’ created in the school grounds.

Nigel and his team have always provided a first-class horticultural service to the people of Guernsey and have been a real inspiration to gardeners of all ages. His particular interest in educating island children about the environment has shown him to be an extremely enthusiastic, knowledgeable and passionate advocate of all things green. His ongoing “Green Legacy” programme is the public face of his long-nurtured concern for the future of our planet. Without the likes of Nigel not only the island of Guernsey but also the wider world would be much the poorer."

Of particular note - this comment from the judges-

"The enthusiasm of the children at St. Andrew’s school was outstanding under the guidance of the Headmistress. The involvement of Nigel Clark has had a significant impact on introducing new ideas and the concepts of the no-dig garden is an exciting departure from traditional gardening techniques. The judges in particular would like to thank the children for their enthusiasm on the day, showing the judges their individual projects in awful weather!"
